The Trackman for Public Speaking

Stop guessing how you sound. Use the dashboard below to record a brief baseline, then view your full data-driven speaking metrics and vocal performance report.

How the Mic-Check App Scores Your Speech

Our proprietary engine breaks your communication down into three measurable categories: Content, Delivery, and Simplicity. Here is how your data translates to a better performance.

Content (What You Say)

What is the Personal metric in public speaking?

The Personal metric measures storytelling by tracking how much of your content describes a specific person’s thoughts and actions. A lack of personal content risks being unengaging or vague. Our database of measured professional speakers suggests the best speakers range between 30 to 60% Personal content.

What is the Visual metric in public speaking?

The Visual metric measures how much of your content relies on sensory words people can visualize, like colors, sizes, or objects. Low visual scores limit audience retention. Our database of measured professional speakers suggests the best speakers range between 20 to 50% Visual content.

What is the Intangible metric in public speaking?

The Intangible metric measures how much of your content describes non-Personal and non-Visual words, such as general concepts or filler. Too much intangible content makes speeches dry. Our database of measured professional speakers suggests the best speakers range between 10 to 30% Intangible content.

Delivery (How You Sound)

What is a good speaking pace (WPM)?

WPM stands for Words Per Minute and measures how many words the speaker says per minute on average. There is an upper limit on how many words audiences process effectively. Our database of measured professional speakers suggests the best speakers range between 100 to 150 WPM.

What is the Syllables Per Second (SPS) metric?

SPS stands for Syllables Per Second and functions as our Mumble Meter. It measures syllables spoken per active second, excluding pauses. Our database of measured professional speakers suggests the best speakers range between 3.5 to 4.5 SPS before words sound like incoherent mumbles.

What is the ideal Pause % for a presentation?

Pause % is the amount of time the speaker spent completely silent compared to their active speaking time. Too little pause time indicates rushing. Our database of measured professional speakers suggests the best speakers range between 15 to 35% Pause %.

How do variance metrics affect delivery?

Variance metrics track your vocal dynamics. Pause Var evaluates varied pause lengths, Voice Var counts changes in speaking volume, and Pace Var tracks alternating slow and fast sentences. High variation in these three metrics directly correlates with highly engaging and persuasive delivery.

Simplicity (How Easily You Are Understood)

What does Runtime mean in public speaking?

Runtime measures how long a speaker talks on average until they take a Noticeable Pause longer than 700 milliseconds. Extreme runtimes indicate nervous rushing. Our database of measured professional speakers suggests the best speakers average a Runtime between 3.0 to 6.0 seconds.

What is a good Comp-Grade for speeches?

Comp-Grade measures the complexity of your average sentence against reading comprehension indexes like Flesch Kinkaid or Coleman-Liau. Our database of measured professional speakers suggests the best speakers range between 5.0 to 10.0 Comp-Grade, indicating accessible, plain English.

What is the Simple % metric?

Simple % calculates how many words match a database of the 10,000 most commonly used English words. Too little Simple % risks alienating your audience with overly technical language. Our database of measured professional speakers suggests the best speakers range between 80 to 90% Simple %.
